Universal Health Care

"And Jesus answered and said to them, "It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:31-32

What comes to your mind when you think about your spiritual health?
What do you do to "exercise" spiritually?

  1. My daily exercise is very simple but effective. I use my eyes to see his beautiful creation. The flowers, clouds, trees, children playing. I use my ears to hear is works. The birds chirping, the frogs at night, the crickets. I listen to his children laugh and listen when they speak. I thank Him for the gorgeous food He created for us to eat. A real rainbow. I am in tune at all times to what He has put in place for us, and that keeps me focused on how awesome He is and I can't help but know He is real. My mind works at a simple level, but oh how great is our God!

  2. When I exercise spiritually, I will read my Bible, go to church as often as I possibly can. I love it a lot and just going keeps me going throughout the week as I live for GOD and do my best to live a GODLY life. I always think positive, and want to do good everywhere I go. I always do my best to put GOD first in my life, although as many of us do, I fall short sometimes, but through prayer (as I do every night), I come back, and go to the next day, and try harder to put GOD first. It can be hard to do this outside of church, but if we read our Bibles and pray every night, it will become a lot easier with the confidence that GOD is on our side and will help us whenever we need HIM.

  3. Spiritual Health is just as important as Physical Health, perhaps more so, because of the eternal vs. temporal impacts.

In order to maintain, i.e. "exercise" my personal spiritual health, I strive to do the following:

    1. Live by the doctrine of Christ (John 14:15)

    2. Maintain a personal relationship with God (I John 2:28)
Talk to Him regularly in prayer
Read and Study His holy word
    Seek His help and support

    3. Share the gospel with others (Mark 16:15)

    4. Maintain an appreciation for the blessings of God (Romans 1:20)
    Physical health
    Nature (God's creation)
    Humor
    Beauty
    Security
    Love

  4. When I think about physical healthcare, I have a picture of a fitness center with people working like there is no tommorow. Their goal is to make every muscle in their body "healthy". There are also some (like myself) who go in for some light workouts ... occasionally. And the result is, muscles are not quite "perfect". You could say it was a waste of time. Those who worked hard frequently have vastly improved their physical health, but those who treated exercise as something not to get too close to .... had no gain in their physical health.
Spiritual health is a lot more important. It's benefits are eternal. Jesus said in John 17:17 "sanctify them through the truth: thy word is truth". The way to build spiritual muscle ... to be able to overcome the world ... is to read God's word .... frequently ... with urgency ... to gain spiritual health ... and eternity with our GOD. Also to be a doer of the word and not just a hearer. (James 1:22-25)
